Campus Bornholm brings together the island's upper secondary, adult, youth, and vocational education in the island's main city Rønne, ensuring the availability of a wide range of educational offerings. The intention is to retain and educate young people under the slogan "We’re educating an island." The outcome is obvious benfitial; providing the local business community with an attractive and qualified local workforce.
The project includes new construction and renovation of existing workshop and theory buildings, collectively forming a compact educational center.
The terraced superstructure with staggered levels adapts the large building to the surrounding suburban environment. The school's common facilities for the many educational programs on site are gathered around a large central square, while the individual educational programs are organized along smaller and secondary squares and streets.
In 2018, Campus Bornholm was awarded Building of the Year, a Danish honorary prize given each year to the best and most important constructions based on their societal and architectural significance.
Campus Bornholm is featured in the Danish Architecture Centre's reference publication "Learning" as an exemplary learning environment.
