“Carquejeiras” by Portuguese team: Ana Rita Duarte, Afonso Carvalho Onofre, Maria Joao Tato and Margarida Videira Pires
This lightweight intervention managed to organize successfully a string of activities and making them more relevant. A simple but strong concept that puts great emphasis on the dynamic crossings in alternative to the existing road. Regarding the impact on a wider city network of paths, all the static functions were integrated in a dynamic movement, making up a very graphically appealing gesture.
From the author: “The proposal undertook the goal of continuing the existent circuit of the Cais da Ribeira, nowadays ending in the Cais dos Guindais under the Luiz I Bridge, through the city […] intended to increase the influential area of the facilities and unify this part of the city with the one inside the Ferdinand Wall. […] Having by negative not the mass of the buildings, but the voids that are collaterally created, this form bends and curves in a graciousness connection with the river, creating in the process different public areas.”
