Yuji Tanabe Architects is based in Kamakura, about one hour by train from Tokyo (Kamakura was the capital of Japan about 800 years ago). Kamakura is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on one side, and has a rich natural environment and traditional buildings. The reason for setting up our office here is that we believe that living while observing and feeling the changes in nature on a daily basis, and the slow flow of time, which is different from the city, are important for exploring original designs.
