L'EAU Design as Architects

When it comes to ‘renovation’ or ‘remodeling’ in the architectural field, most people recall the repair and retrofit of old buildings, which lose its own functionality or are wasted because the urban center was moved to a new area.

However, we can see many uncompleted buildings, which was halted with just framing, because of no guarantee of profitability. That results from the fact that it just started with the approval of construction blindly before judging the purpose of the speculation in real estate or analyzing the business value thoroughly.

Unlike the urban regeneration that rehabilitates and repairs the city using the surrounding environment maintained from the past, how does this wasted building, which has an uncertain architectural purpose and has no story for being here from the past, have to be regenerated ?

Located in the Munho-ri, Seojong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, this semi structure is the wasted land where it was purchased for the speculation in real estate at the time when the Yangpyeong was emerging as a travel destination close to the capital area. The construction of a building was started in the site, but not finished. The uncomplete building was just concrete structure standing there frigidly for a long time, though we hope this building bear warmth by the occupants.

The functionally broken space is easily be extinct when the usage is finished.

The true architectural regeneration should be an urban regeneration with Self-Storytelling which creates a new story constantly communicating in the center of the city for any programs beyond just a simple rehabilitation. To do so, the architecture should play a role of using and sharing the everyday life story hidden at the place and finding and involving the daily life on the site.

The architecture with a new form, which is wanted by the site, starts from the rediscovery of the place that has been postponed so far in many stories that the area is facing.
