A typical Montreal duplex was the setting for the overall transformation project. The clients purchased this charming building in the Ahunstic district, with the idea of occupying the first floor and then keeping the second floor as a rental property, at least for the years to come. The mandate was to propose a total renovation concept by creating a new signature for the interiors. For budgetary and scheduling reasons, the project was skillfully carried out through a coaching mandate and in close collaboration with the clients.
The very first lines in the plan quickly led us to open the kitchen to the courtyard, leaving the living spaces bathed in natural light. Then, it is through a new structural strategy that we were able to decompartmentalize this typical Montreal plan, allowing us to divide the living spaces from the private spaces.
The ambition of the renovation then obliged us to abandon the few original materials, which became for us the fundamental work of the project, that is to say to create a new signature. It is through a meticulous work of choice of natural materials and simple tones that the harmony of spaces contributes to a soft and warm atmosphere, for this new family which will welcome their first child in the next months.
