Wunnebad Winnenden

Wunnebad Winnenden

Winnenden is nestled on the edge of the Swabian Forest, surrounded by a picturesque landscape of vineyards and orchards. To the south, the so-called “Zipfelbachtal” green space marks the edge of the urban area. For over a century, this scenic location has been a popular spot for sports, swimming, and leisure activities for the larger Winnenden region, beginning with the construction of an outdoor pool. Over the years, the facility has evolved, and in the early 1990s, it became one of Germany's first public pools, now known as the Wunnebad. To ensure its continued appeal and ability to meet future demands year-round, we have extensively renovated and expanded both the pool and surrounding outdoor facilities. This project builds upon existing structures and leverages our years of experience in pool construction, coupled with our commitment to sustainable building practices.

The design concept draws inspiration from the unique surroundings, incorporating the topographically shaped open spaces of the outdoor pools and the existing Wunnebad to formulate a central idea that harmoniously connects the old and the new. At the heart of the new facility stands the striking domed structure of the original bathing hall. This is complemented by a composition of curved roofs and organic forms, which effortlessly integrate the various functional areas. The form of the reworked building responds to its context with sensitivity, blending seamlessly into the environment.

As part of the conversion and modernization of the existing structures, we implemented several key measures, including the repositioning and redesign of the outdoor changing rooms, the enhancement of the main entrance foyer to strengthen its presence, the redesign of the children's area within the indoor pool, the renovation of the sauna area with upgraded amenities, and the construction of a new lifeguard tower, among others.
