Building for technology and personnel.
Marking the metro
Like a modern signal box, the service building marks the northern terminus of the Amsterdam North/South subway. In terms of materialization, it is in line with the surroundings of the railway line: rusty tram tracks and basalt boulders. With its rust-brown glow, this colorful building welcomes all passers-by along the northern entrance to Amsterdam.
Cutting edge architecture
Large glass fronts emphasize the north-south direction. The roads widens towards Amsterdam’s ring road. As the service building is located nearby, it cuts off the Corten steel volume creating its characteristic dynamic shape. The building accommodates technical facilities as well as rooms for drivers, office and maintenance personnel. They can take a break, meat and change clothes here.
