Liege Theater

Atelier d'architecture Pierre Hebbelinck as Architects

The project is an evolving cultural place embedded in a saturated urban fabric inside a classified historical building. The complex is a tool for creation with an international scope. The project provides spectators with two theatre halls, one of which is also a rehearsal and creative space entirely wide open onto the Place du XX Août. Its expression reveals the contemporary identity of the theatre that inhabits the site. The existing building is assigned to the public reception areas, services and administration. The grand hall was designed in consideration of the many parametersgoverning the theatrical tool. The result is the creation of a new freestanding tier in the hall, barely supported on the floor and freeing up the walls of any connection points. All the general technical equipment was successfully integrated to maintain the coherence and spirit of the site.
