The House Around the Oblique Column, designed by Renesa Architecture Design Studio, is a 12,000-square-foot farmhouse set on an acre in South Delhi. This G+1 structure, crafted for a family of three, redefines primary living by blending monumental architecture with serene functionality. The house is centered around a striking oblique column, serving as both a structural and visual anchor, giving the home its name and unique character.
The design prioritizes a seamless blend of functionality and artistic expression, reflecting the family’s lifestyle. The wife, an art curator and artist, envisioned the home as both a gallery and a canvas. Minimalist interiors with clean lines allow art to take center stage, creating a dynamic yet restful environment. The vast living and dining areas promote interaction and movement, while large windows and thoughtfully placed fenestrations ensure abundant natural light and ventilation. This connects the indoors with the outdoors, enhancing the home’s retreat-like feel.
Each of the three bedrooms is a private sanctuary, designed for comfort and calm. The master bedroom features a private sit-out area, while a dedicated studio for the artist's mother, along with a gym and den, further enrich the functionality of the home. Every space is designed with meticulous attention to detail, integrating frames and portals to add depth and character.
The house’s exterior and interior celebrate subtle brutalism, with exposed concrete surfaces creating a raw, monumental aesthetic.
