BIOSIS is a Danish multidisciplinary studio that operates at the intersection of urban planning, architecture, and landscape design. Founded in 2018 by architects Morten Vedelsbøl and Mikkel Thams Olsen, BIOSIS has its headquarters in Copenhagen and additional offices in Stockholm and Nuuk. The studio boasts a dedicated team of architects, planners, urban consultants, landscape architects, engineers, and researchers.

BIOSIS undertakes projects across a wide range of sectors and scales, from bespoke single-family houses to multi-residential complexes, urban masterplanning, commercial fitouts, public infrastructure, and research and consultancy. Their work spans Scandinavia, the North Atlantic, and the Arctic regions, with a special focus on addressing the unique challenges posed by these environments.

The studio has recently brought its expertise to Canada, where regions like Greenland face similar challenges, with a critical need for more and better housing. BIOSIS specializes in uncovering unseen and alternative potentials for developing constrained land, often working with municipalities and governments to provide innovative solutions.

“Being able to find land to develop in places where more housing is needed but land is scarce is crucial as it enables towns to grow organically and in connection to the existing community instead of extending expensive infrastructure or creating satellite towns”, says Mikkel Thams Olsen and Morten Vedelsbøl.

Through their approach, BIOSIS seeks to inspire resilient and sustainable architecture in regions where climate-driven design is essential, paving the way for a more adaptable future.
