Jihlava Multipurpose Arena

The arena is a multifunctional space with a capacity of 5,600 spectators, and extends the stadium’s original purpose by creating a versatile space, adapted to both its primary sporting purposes within state-of-the-art facilities and a broad spectrum of activities – and their respective audiences. Located on the border of Jihlava’s historical center, the arena – a structure usually confined to the periphery of cities – is adjacent to a park and university and places itself in the continuity of these two spaces. The several public spaces nested throughout the four-building “urban stadium” allow it to melt into the surrounding urban landscape. Rather than marking an interruption in the existing city st... Mendel's Greenhouse

Nestled in the heart of Brno, Czech Republic CHYBIK + KRISTOF honor a historic greenhouse of St. Augustin Abbey with a novel glass and steel structure deeply rooted in the principles of Gregor Mendel’s legacy in modern genetics, emulating his drawings of the hereditary system. Mendel’s Greenhouse pays homage to scientist and abbot Gregor Mendel's work in genetics and contribution to science, culture and humanity. The new Greenhouse is in direct conversation with the original 19th-century greenhouse of St. Augustin Abbey in Brno, CZ, where Mendel conducted his first pioneering experiments. After being swept by a storm in the 1870s, the historical greenhouse is reinvented by CHK for the first time as a pavilion of genetics, comme... More

Modular Laboratory

While modular structures are usually created by placing right-angled modules side by side, we realize new spatial possibilities through creation of new modular system. Spatial modules containing facilities are leveled onto the planar flooring modules, which are anchored to the foundation. Both modules then function as columns, allowing them to hold the roof modules and form a continuous main space. Making sure to keep the workplace breathable, all-glass surfaces between the modules draw in an abundance of light from all sides of the structure, while a pair of skylights further relaxes the space. The Research Center will be a prototype of a new, adaptable system for various projects.   The building will serve as a flexible space for d... More

Urban Infill

The five-story building comprises of 14 modern residential lofts and commercial spaces, offering panoramic views of the city. The architect’s urban design maximized the potential of the limited area, amplifying the plot through an irregular polygon floorplan and a geometric sculptural staircase. A commissioned site-specific light installation by artist Petr Dub adorns the building’s exterior. With its location near the center, the building will provide benefits of urban living to its inhabitants, becoming a landmark of the area. The Urban Infill Lofts are located in a former industrial district, which is currently undergoing a large transformation. As CHYBIK + KRISTOF’s design is the first substantial project southeast of the city center,the... Forestry in the Forest

When visiting the LČR grounds, we realised an important the vital fact that shaped our thinking from the outset about designing a new administrative centre from the beginning to the end. After visiting the campus, we decided to explore the immediate surroundings and the journey took us across the bridge directly to the Hradec forest. It was a warm summer day, and the contrast between the temperature in the heated environment between the buildings and the entrance into the cool forest was quite obvious. We asked ourselves what we really are forced to work in the hot interior when it would be best to take your laptop among the trees and work in an environment full of peace ? Peace. Our concepts became the phenomenon of the forest as a workpla... More
