Artistview

In the heart of creativity, where art becomes a way of life, lies an extraordinary residence that is itself a work of art. On a street aptly named Artist View Boulevard, nestled amidst the headwaters of the Humber River and with views of the distant escarpment, the home was designed for an art dealer, his family, and a sizable art collection. Scott Norsworthy At street view, the Artist View project corresponds with its surrounding community but distinguishes itself with a flanked entrance, encapsulating guests as they approach the front door. It’s here where the extraordinary details of the home begin to present themselves. Caption “We designed the Artist View project to have views of the exterior from every room. By... More

Figtree Galleries

In 2020, Design+Architecture was commissioned by Livingstone Shire Council to design an art gallery in Yeppoon. First considerations were for the site's uniqueness: a narrow, sloping block nestled behind two historic Fig trees and situated beside Yeppoon’s original Post Office. It was paramount that the gallery was humble yet responded to its context. The design delivers a much-needed artist precinct while retaining and celebrating the significant history of the site. Cameron Murchison Cameron Murchison The design process involved lengthy consultation with the council and the Yeppoon arts community. As a result, the concept of the new gallery is based on the rich history of communication, pineapples, and bathing boxes, syno... More

10 elegant galleries prizing architecture and art

In the contemporary art galleries featured here, the architecture is as much the protagonist as the art itself. A mixture of styles, these elegant galleries are examples of a more personable type of art space: smaller than the huge galleries found in many capitals, they are places for those who are curious about art and the architecture in which it is housed.   1. Galeri Nev Kırlangıç

The main design task of the Galeri Nev project is to install a proper art gallery in a single open space that is formed of exposed glazed façades on the three sides. This entrance floor shop, being on a sloped terrain and within a valley meadow extending to embassy gardens, has a picturesque view, rare for Ankara. Possessing the view while creating a secluded exhibition environment is the contradiction that the project is based on. The idea is, basically, to place an introverted exhibition area besides the only existing wall and to locate other functions on the exterior side overlooking the landscape. The street façade side is designed with the "wall-door" idea, which tricks on the Turkish idiom that means to face an unopened door.
