LW redesigns the interior for Toro Toro, a South American restaurant and bar that entices those with a taste for tasteful décor, sense-stimulating ambiance and exquisite cuisine
Among their latest projects, LW is getting attention for revamping the South American restaurant and bar, Toro Toro. The revamped look is all about providing visitors with a holistic experience using new design elements.
As they enter the space, visitors who dined there before will retain a sense of familiarity thanks to aspects like bronze bull sculptures, black metal cage detailing, and the backlit onyx kitchen. New visitors will be taken aback by the eccentric wallpaper and greenery that creates a tropical vibe.
As they take their seats, surrounded by vibrant colors like teal and burnt orange, and exotic South-American prints, the audience will notice new features like hand-woven panels on the dining chairs.
Surrounding elements such as the double-story murals of authentic gauchos and Kudu wall hangings accentuate the smells and flavors a visitor experiences. After that, details like the timber flooring and walnut feature tables will be imprinted in their minds as part of a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The reason behind such an articulate selection of color palettes, furniture, and authentic décor is so that the user finds functionality in the design. This carefully crafted ambiance would allow a visitor’s visual and auditory senses to resonate with olfactory and taste senses.
Design Brief
The brief was to refurbish the restaurant making it more intimate and relaxed and a bit more up to date and not so refined so that it would cater to a wider clientele. We were told to work with certain existing key design elements in order to create a seamless blend between the old and the new design features.
Design Challenges
Design challenges we were faced with was that there was a given budget which we had to comply with. The client also wanted to make the refurbishment within a very short time line of approx. 5 months from start of design process to completion on site. We had to work with the existing shell and design features like the staircase and the cages and location and finish of the bar and show kitchen
Design Results
The final result is an outlet which feels more inviting and up-to-date with some quirky elements like the oversized wall murals and palm leaf wall paper. South American Ranch design feature are predominant throughout (ie in cushions, Pampas Rugs, Gaucho wall murals, Panama hats, Saddle armchairs, barn doors, black leather belt clad maitre D’desk, pony hide pouffs, etc). The application of warm hues with hints of burnt orange and teal and tactile materials create an intimate atmosphere.
