With a permanent exhibition over an area of 1700 square meters in the Road Transport Hall, the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne presents the history and future of road transportation. In close cooperation with 14 exhibition partners from the automobile industry and the Museum of Transport as client, OOS has staged an exciting exhibition. The individual exhibition themes are translated and materialised metaphorically and are recognisable as spatially insular and individually designed exhibition pieces, lending them a sense of identity and autonomy. Varying experiences and the spatial layering of the exhibition consider both the cultural interests of the Swiss Museum of Transport as well as the commercial interests of its sponsors and investors. The museum visitor is presented with an opportunity rich in discovery and interaction. A diverse range of media, from graphic illustrations to digital projections, targets a wide public audience that consists as much of auto-freaks as it does of families, children and seniors. Seating, interactive possibilities, discussion forums - exhibit displays which direct themselves towards the observer; media installations which serve to entertain; attention-grabbing graphics which inform the inquisitive, and interactive exhibit pieces which appeal to the experimental among visitors – all these coincide with and intersect one another in the exhibition hall and can be experienced simultaneously. The lighting and colour concept is appropriately restrained and creates an atmosphere of unity in the exhibition hall. The colourful coding used for texts, interactive exhibits and media stations originate from the streetscape. The colour palette of traffic blue, green and yellow weaves its way through the exhibition like a thread, systemising information, regulating the flow of visitors and offering an aid for orientation, without forcing visitors onto predetermined navigational routes. The exhibition presents itself in manifold ways, like a kaleidoscope, capable of repeatedly surprising and amusing the museum's guests. At the same time, its multiplicity and complexity concoct fantasies in the visitors' minds, bring forth associations and leave room for interpretation. The Road Transport Hall promises its guests an impressive museum visit rich in experience and discovery.
