Sports Enthusiast’s Basement

Metro Building and Remodeling Group LLC as Architects

This finished basement remodel was created for a family that loves sports, games and entertaining lots of friends and family.

The finished basement consists of a spacious main recreation room with a wet bar, a playroom, a combination home office/guest room with a full bath, an additional half bath, and a large home gym.

Recreation room: With 3 large screen TV’s in the main room’s sitting area, 3 games can be watched, or 3 video games can be played or any combination of those simultaneously. The main room also features a tabletop shuffleboard, a crescent-shaped custom wet bar with its own TV, and plenty of special areas for people to sit, chat, play and enjoy. The wet bar has a quartz and custom made wood countertop, wine fridge, beer fridge, icemaker, and dishwasher.

Playroom: Off the main room is a playroom. It features a custom-designed wood and glass sliding barn door so parents can keep an eye on the kids without disturbing them. The room includes an air hockey table, TV, sofas and a cozy play area under the stairs, separated by a half door.

Home office/guest room: The finished basement includes a spacious home office with two custom desk areas, one of which that can swing out of the way, allowing the room to double as a guest room.

Full bathroom: Off the guest room is a full bathroom.

Half bath: To allow guests using the bedroom to have the full bath for themselves, a half bath is also part of this finished basement.

Home gym: The basement’s home gym is outfitted with a special rubber floor, an oversized full-wall mirror, TV, and plenty of exercise equipment.

Design, engineering and construction info and considerations:

To open up space in the recreation room, a new steel support beam was installed so that an existing steel column could be removed to create the open area where the couch was to be placed. New windows were added to allow more natural light into the basement, which required removing parts of the basement’s concrete walls.

The basement’s walls and ceiling are sound-insulated to keep noise from each room contained and especially to keep the noise from the main room and playroom from disturbing those upstairs or using the office/guestroom.

Other basement elements include quartz countertops, a custom curved wood countertop, energy-saving LED lighting, Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring, custom made metal handrails for the steps, custom cabinetry, home automation, custom glass doors, decorative accent tile, LED mirror with Bluetooth speakers, a floating vanity, sound insulation, decorative ceiling beams, square black recess lighting trims, craftsman style doors and hardware, and mirrors in the gym.
