SKIVE CHP STATION

C.F. Møller Architects as Architects

Skive CHP (Combined Heating and Power) Station is a modern district heating plant based on the latest biomass technology. The use of copper in the facades serves to convey a sense of quality and simplicity, both as a brand and as a new landmark for the town of Skive.

Skive CHP station is located on a ridge along the main road to Skive – visible both from the fjord, the town and the nearby residential areas. The building’s simple shapes and distinctive details signal ’power station’, shorn of all such familiar building features as doors, windows or storey divisions. The facades are clad with copper panels which, in a few years’ time, will take on a warm tone and eventually, through the workings of time and weather, acquire a greenish patina with a fine play of colours and a beautiful depth. As the first of its kind in the world, Skive CHP Station is a full-scale pilot project in the new biomass technology, and will therefore be used to provide demonstrations. For visitors, the building has a showroom and footbridges on various levels in the large halls, allowing the public to learn about and experience the technical facilities in action. The integration of functionality and aesthetics in the building, together with the implementation of the latest technology, based on gas production from biomass, represents a milestone for both Skive and the new technology.
