SHOP AND EXHIBITION SPACE

Atelier m3a architectes as Interior Architects

Time hadtakenitstoll on the place. Weproceededlikearcheologists and weremoved layer after layer untilwefound the spirit of the original building, a brick tiledfloor and stone and brick wallsthat must have been more than 150 yearsold. Theseoldmaterials serve as a reminder of what the place used to be. Wewanted to preservethem as soon as wediscoveredthem. Most of the floorboards and partition walls have been takenaway to give the place more light and volume.

Weonlyadded a ceiling and twostaircases, two partition walls and boxed in furniture to keepcosts down and maintain the harmony of the space, nothing more, nothingless. Looking to befaithful to the original structure, we have justusedtimber in the conversion.

Inspired by traditional architectural styles, using local materials, the project looks like a traditional house of Camargue with one living space and a double eaved-roof. Chalk white paint harmonises the new with the old. The living spacewithitsunusualshape and exposedsimplicity, has a great deal of potential.

Designedaccording to needs but allowing for changes in use, the whole conversion canbeeasilydismantled.
