As a front runner in bringing urban gas systems to Shanghai, the Feng Xian Gas headquarters was designed to reflect these historical roots while also maintaining a modern and exuberant look.
The structure has a silhouette aptly akin to that of a gas flame, while precisely cut glass seamlessly clads its external facade. Two wings sandwich an internal atrium that, similar to the core of a flame, is the focal point of the building and serves as a common space. This atrium also creates a natural stack effect, drawing in cool air from the ground level and out through the roof vents.
A landscaped courtyard in the rear offers respite from work, with its vegetation even extending into the building itself and subtly linking the internal space with the external. Sustainability was also considered, with an open plan allowing for flexibility in space planning.
