The essence of the design is about the fluidity of movement: movement that breaks horizontal barriers; movement that leads to Interaction and Sense of Community; movement through a diversity of spatial volumes that stimulates and invigorates.
The triangular spiral form of the building is a result of site influences and fluid movement strategies. It is intentionally manipulated to be unconventional. Through the intricate oblique floor plates which echoes onto the terraced studio spaces, and the interlocking ramps, the composition simulates a looping triangle to create a seamless learning space that promotes cross-disciplinary interaction among students. The studios fold into and embrace the central student communal space, where an informal curtained lecture hall can be flexibly turned into an event space for performances or leisure. The main circulation continues to spiral downwards, leading to an auditorium and other public functions at spaces in between.
