Robertson Small Hotel

Studio Ashby as Architects

In the winter of 2016, owner Tim Rands entrusted his daughter Abigail with the task of renovating the hotel from top to bottom. Curated by Studio Ashby of London, the redesign saw local designers and collaborators tasked with creating bespoke items to form part of a brand new look while enhancing the award-winning facilities. The full refurbishment spanned the hotel, spa, restaurant, bar and grounds. The resulting design islight, fun, colourful and full of humour with little touches that guests can interact with. Whilst the level of service, comfort and luxury is very high, the surroundings are not intimidating-it’s a hotel full of art, design, colour and soul. The design responds to Robertson’s varied climate thanks to Studio Ashby’s use of colour, which iscool and fresh in the summer and cosy and intimate in the winter. Studio Ashby used 12 different colour tones throughout the hotel and each room varies in combination. The colours are inspired by the local environment, therefore the interiors never feel in stark contrast to the external environment. There is a strong link between indoors and out.
