Punta Sirena Hotel

WMR Arquitectos as Architects

Punta Sirena Hotel is mainly destined to aquatic sports such as kitesurf and recreation. The building is placed on a seaside, in Curanipe beach, Maule Region.

The building rises to avoid excessive damage from a possible tsunami. The base idea is the “tree structure”: large foundations with a lot of weight and slender pillars standing strongly to confront the strength of the seawater.

The distribution is defined by three volumes seeking a central patio without wind (south strong wind, known as surazo wind). This courtyard is set between the volume of the restaurant and the school of windsurfing and kitesurf (project).

The building’s constructive module was design in 4,0 x 4,0 meters made in pine wood where beams and columns are fully visible. The whole skeleton is impregnated and painted with carbolineum (black color) that gives protection to humidity and termites. The structure of the façades was modulated by one-meter distance. In between, eucalyptus rods appear to create a translucent façade comparable with an aesthetic lamp when turning on the lights at night.

The interiors, floor, walls and ceilings are pinewood in dark brown color (wood stain).  Walls are made of 1”x8” rough sawn timber.  The construction was considered in a simple way, only with local wood and labor.

Material Used:
1. Facade cladding: Local Pine Wood
2. Flooring: Local Pine Wood
3. Doors: Thick plywood
4. Windows: Pine wood frames with thermopanel glass
5. Roofing: Asphaltic membrane
