The Administration requested a proposal for a new University Campus in the outskirts of the city, near the original campus.
The concept is to create a new University Campus with an urban feeling by proposing a sequence of open spaces reminiscent of piazzas and courtyards. The program requested that two main branches of the University be together, yet have distinct identities. Therefore we organized the two branches in separate yet interconnected U-shaped buildings that create two public spaces: one main piazza, open towards the original campus, and another more intimate courtyard.
The program is organized with public functions such as the main auditorium, cafes, galleries and gymnasiums and kindergarten spaces on the ground floor, and classrooms and offices on the floors above.
The synergy between the public functions and the open spaces will invite the neighborhood within the campus, so that both the University and the neighborhood people will enjoy the new public space amenities.
The classrooms and offices are accessible through a controlled entrance enhancing the security of students and teachers.
The buildings are designed as concrete structures with floor to ceiling technical glazing with shading systems as required according to exposure. Natural light is an important part of our concept, as well as sustainable local materials, mechanical systems with floor air distribution integrating fresh air, green roofs that will retain water and a well insulated building.
