Petra, a sculptured stone

Petra, a sculptured stone

Gallardo Llopis Arquitectos as Architects

Petra comes from the Greek and means stone, is not a city built of stone, but literally, carved and sculpted in stone. The origin of the word Petrer comes from Petrea village, which means village or rather stony, with lots of stone.

Appropriating this idea the proposal arises from a stone, rock, mass, ... Petrea. The building, like a quarry operation, generates as a base of operations for stone removal from enhancing the geometries and lines of a pure and sober body.

Reflections, lights and shadows

The project is evident not only physically, but through the reflections that make it clear through the sheets of water, producing a mirror effect housing multiplying the visuals.

A game of shadows from carved rock contrasting with the light of the large panes of glass. The skylight and the interior courtyard of mysticism that provide communication with the bottom of the home like a passage to another layer of rock in question.

Patio, an erosion of the stone.

Petrer Castle serves local reference to the concept of building mass and rocky, where there is also a series of cave dwellings under it. Following this concept you choose to unite the rest of the program in the basement.

Erosion is performed to the rock, a patio as a gun, a hole under the rock to enjoy this patio, which becomes a magical, quiet place where the reflections of the water level living with trees that provide shadow over their heads and over time.

This decision allows volumetric more harmonious proportions, a cost savings by eliminating a plant and more broadly to be more appropriate proportions between the spaces and the height of the building.
