P-Cube

UNSTABLE as Architects

P-Cube is a temporary pavilion consisting of a 9 meters high, 9 meters wide cubic structure designed by Spanish-Icelandic artist and architect Marcos Zotes and his studio UNSTABLE for the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow. The pavilion uses a standard scaffolding system as its core structure, which is entirely covered with a semi-transparent layer of fabric. The ghostly and ephemeral appearance of the pavilion during the daytime becomes fully alive with geometric visuals during the nighttime.

Located at the center of VDNKh Park in Moscow, Russia, the pavilion has been designed in a way to provide a gate in each of its 4 sides, creating an entry to the site and a meeting point for passers by. Two sets of staircases provide vertical access to the public viewing platform located inside the cube at a height of 6 meters. The public viewing platform offers excellent views over the site and lets the audience be immersed in a physical-digital environment of light and shadows.

The digital component of P-Cube features a grid-like organism that slowly transforms the integrity of the cube through a series of constant morphological changes. The accompanying sound was specially composed for the project by Russian electronic musician Pixelord.
