Ocean Network Express Headquarters

Q-LAB as Architects

The design of this headquarters office celebrates timeless elegance and simplicity which is often referred to the term "wabi-sabi," the very essenceof Japanese culture.we researched into the long history of Japanese culture with outstanding craftsmanship and delicate built edifice such as ceremonial tea room, tatami floor, sliding doors and screen. These elements together form an unique Japanese perspective in interior design.

To create a cohesive office environment, we apply similar design language throughout the entire headquarters, particularly in the reception area, largemeeting room and the employee lounge with hints of tatami and louvers often found in the traditional Japanese tea houses. Moreover, the use of materials were limited to only Hinoki, steel and marble, in order to present simplicity with tranquility. The concept of layering often found in the traditional temples where scenic landscape is revealed behind the sliding doors was deployed when laying out the three major spaces, the foyer, the reception area, and the workspace.

These spaces was lined up perpendicular to each other with layers of glass and wood louvers in between, so that the visitors can visually see all spaces in a sequential order with a play of transparency and translucency.

In conclusion, ONE office was designed in ways to represent company value and culture with minimum use of material and design language to form

a cohesive whole.
