The canteen at the Mottini primary school and E. Fermi first grade secondary school in Romano di Lombardiais a punctual work on the urban fabric and represents a connection between the existing school buildings.
We designed, according to the social role of the canteen as a sharing space open to the community, an involving and flexible environment, easily accessible all day long.
Our design aim was to define a beautiful and functional space for the school, and a multipurpose center for the community as well. The building hosts indeed out of school time little events and projections for the neighborhood.
The brisesoleil system on the south facade is the main architectural element that organizes and links the new building with the existing ones; it defines a threshold between the interior and the great garden. This sort of portico, usable as an exterior expansion ofthe canteen space, identifies the access paths to the building.
The roof shape, the simple and modular layout of the windows, the brisesoleil, the canopies and a graphic use of the color define a stimulating and coherent project.
In particular, to ensure an excellent comfort and in order to reduce energy consumption, we focused on the building envelope using sustainable materials with good thermal performance.
