Following the model of Impact Hub in Seattle, this community center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is intended to be an inviting, accessible place for education, training and collaboration. Goals of net zero energy consumption, passive and active measures will be pursued including a solar array partially covering a trellis structure, a green roof that will be used for growing produce, natural cross-ventilation, exterior sun shading and expansive fenestration to maximize daylighting. Contextually, the building design addresses the street with an entry colonnade providing a cool filter enabling passage into the interior courtyard which is a figurative cloistered town square. Working with a local architect and Engineers without Borders, this will be a study in regionalism using Haitian building materials and methods.
