Ixmukané was conceived as a community building project based on the premise of a low-cost space. Located in the historic centre of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, this project presents a contemporary interpretation and a bet on maximum simplicity, integrating certain elements of the old structure and surprising us with its energy and variety of textures. Ixmukané offers an alternative way to visit the city, with both a colonial setting and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. It has four suites and two spa cabins on the first floor, connected by a double-height area that serves as a coworking space, snack area and coffee bar.
The second floor has four suites and an administrative office, accompanied by a balcony offering panoramic views of the complex. The wood panelling of the original building is the protagonist, along with the neutrality of polished concrete and the warmth of exposed brick.Ixmukané is inspired by an architecture of implicit exchange.
Not just an exchange with one reality, but with many realities, capable of multiplying links and interconnections. The austerity of the space is an analogy of the purity of the soul, which is what Ixmukané offers to its users: to bring silence to a world full of noise (visual, sound, activity, movement) and to transform it into a sudden healing silence.
Using only the most basic space and materials, it celebrates and respects the challenges of today's tourist traps. It has all the essentials for a comfortable stay and also opens up the possibility for users to receive a warm and soothing embrace for the soul. With an industrial style, but also with purist features, this complex aims to avoid the transitory and ephemeral experiences, making us aware of the unchangeable, the essence of the real. The honesty of the materials and the nakedness of the space open the door to a new order.
