With the allure of a vintage James Bond film house, this brutalist 1976 low-rise villa designed by architect Gerard Cools, sits amongst trees and nature on the outskirts of Mechelen. The villa, with its extensive original façade glazing, was enlarged with a two-storey extension and natural green roof.
The new addition allows light to enter at all times of day, and gives the residents a view in all four directions, while the mirrored windows let it blend into the landscape. Warm interior materials – such as Afrormosia veneer, tropical end-grain wood, copper and cork – recall the sixties era in a contemporary way.
