Hotel 88 Melawai

Arkitekton Limatama as Architects

Hotel 88 is a budget hotel located in Melawai, South Jakarta. It used to be a crowded area but now isn’t as crowded as before. People come for shopping or to have a meal. There are also old book shops and portrait artists along the street. Some people call this place ‘little Tokyo’ because a lot of authentic Japanese restaurants, spas, and even supermarkets that sell Japanese items in the area.  Therefore, the design of the hotel has Japanese essence which is simple and complex.

Previously, the structure has already been built for an office. The owner wanted to change it into a budget hotel. She specifically requested there is a window in every room to gain the sunlight, so we made a void in the middle of the building. Every room in the middle can access the sunshine from the reflection of the skylight. It’s an eight-story hotel and basement. On the first floor, there is a restaurant that has a terrace area where the guest can also enjoy the neighborhood while having their meal. The second floor and the rooftop consist of meeting rooms.

All of the rooms are cozy and modest by simply accommodating the hotel needs and pattern decoration as an accent or identity both for interior and exterior. There are some varieties of patterns that have the same basic form of a square shape. Most of the materials in the interior use wood and artificial wood for the room atmosphere. For the façade, we used aluminum composite panels and wall glass. The material was chosen because it is easy to clean. The area is a high traffic area, so much pollution, and dust are everywhere.
