In viennas 14th district, two old buildings (Number 60a, dating back to 1900 and 60, dating back to 1900/1950) had to be transferred into todays architectural standard, which meant removing everything inside the shell and in Number 60s case also the deconstruction of the second half of the building, in order to rebuild it slightly larger from the middle onwards. One connected floor was also added on top of the old buldings.
Since the partition plan of the upper floors changed completely and modern building services were implemented, all interior walls were torn down, the old ceilings had to be reinforced, strong load-baring walls had to be supported by large (HEB 500) steel beams in order to make room for a commercial use in the ground floor.
We stayed with the already exisiting plaster, since this is common for buildings from that era. We gave Number 60 a new apperance and separated the connecting roof extension on both buldings to emphasize the different building eras.
