‘Koe in de kost’ (‘cow in fare’) is a project aimed at the realisation of eighteen ecological recreational residences which have been integrated in a meadow lined with hedgerows. The accommodations are based on a roof of grass recessed in the landscape. It has a logical binding with the surrounding farms although they have a modern design. With an arched hood the maximum height of the construction is three meters above the grassland. ‘Grondulows’ are built of sustainable and healthy materials with wood as a basis. Guests in these houses cannot only see the wood, but also smell and feel it.
The house radiates warmth with its wooden dining tables and tree-trunk roof. Because it is possible to take a bath beneath a tree-trunk roof it shows an innovative way of the use of wood in the recreational sector. For many this is an unique opportunity to experience ‘real’ wood.
