Henning Larsen Architects' proposal for a new sports park integrates the existing sports area with a series of new facilities for elitist sports and amateur training. The new facilities include an ice rink, football stadium, squash courts, fitness centre, sports clubs, hostel/sportel and restaurant.
Together with the activity slope, the park constitutes a distinctive architectural icon.
The front square and foyer form the heart of the building. From here you access the entire sports park and the reception area with its combined info and climbing wall. On the front square, water, light and the sky create a vibrant interplay giving the terraced surface a colourful and varied structure.
The activity slope is the unifying element of the sports facility, and it activates the entire park. The slope is for jogging, rollerskating, cycling and competitions and runs in three different tracks that cross and surround the facility and connect the surrounding city to the lively sports park. With its eye-catching cover of red asphalt, red gravel and orange rubber, the track provides a structural overview informing the athletes about the different activities in the park.
