Eureka

Magu Design as Architects

Aker BP is a fully-fledged E&P company with exploration, development and production activities on the Norwegian Continental Shelf . Measured in production, Aker BP is one of the largest independent oil companies in Europe. This is the new premises for a department in AkerBP called Eureka. The people here in Eureka works with digitalization of the oil industry which have great focus in the company. They will look at challenges with new eyes and solve them through digitization.

The different crews in Eureka will vary in size depending on which case or project they are working on. Sometimes there will be many small crews, sometimes a crew will occupy an entire floor over a few weeks or months. One can come in once a week to provide expertise support and information or one can belong to several crews. But the main thing is that it is organized as activity based work. There are no fixed desks and the desk need to be cleared when work is finished.

We have organized a quiet zone on each floor for concentrated work, where everyone, regardless of the crew they belong to, can use to work concentrated. In addition, there are several traditional quiet rooms. The largest change from a traditional office is that we have organized the floor plan with 60-70 % collaboration sites and only 30% of the area for individual work. That's a huge change in society, we need to work more together.

The management of Aker also faced great challenges with people looking for available meeting rooms. Meetings were booked weeks in advance, and at the start of the meeting both idea and thought were gone because it was simply gone too long. There was a strong desire to organize for interaction so that ideas and thoughts could be developed in the group immediately. Always available meeting places and interaction places.

The zones are seamless even then have different functions.  Wherever you move, the technology follows. This gives an extra dimension to flexibility for working anywhere and anytime and still being connected to the crew. The IT venture is huge, faster processes and solving digital problems digitally provide a completely different approach.

The interior concept has the theme "Alice in Wonderland». Alice is falling into the rabbit hole and experiencing another world, she is seeing her world with new eyes. We've been trying to create a digital world or a parallel world. The Eureka crews will look at challenges with a new approach. It's allowed to be creative and quirky.
