Reconstruction of IBM's former data center into a place of art. In the building, which was built by Rolf Gutbrod in the 60s, the new gallery occupies the entire ground floor. In the past, the latest computer models were exhibited here - today it is a space where contemporary art is shown.
The pavement literally flows down to the ground floor. A few steps down to the gallery space, which is literally embedded in the Ernst-Reuter-Platz. The ramifications of the massive ventilation system testify to the past as a data center. These were uncovered and thus staged like a permanent installation.
Efremidis Gallery occupies the whole ground floor of a listed building designed for IBM by Rolf Gutbrod and Hermann Kiess in the early 1960s. The ground floor housed the data centrum of the blue giant which explains the higher than usual ceiling filled with air vents and -ducts. The approximately 400 m² space has been carefully redesigned by CAMA A during the summer of 2018. Many original architectural features were retained in order to encourage site-specific projects. The galleryspace on Ernst-Reuter-Platz 2 also hosts [ERP Projekt].
Umbau des ehemaligen Rechenzentrums von IBM zu einem Ort der Kunst. In dem Gebäude, welches in den 60ern von Rolf Gutbrod gebaut wurde, nimmt die neue Galerie das gesamte Erdgeschoss ein. Früher wurden hier die neusten Computermodelle ausgestellt — heute ist es ein Raum, in dem zeitgenössische Kunst gezeigt wird.
Das Straßenpflaster fließt förmlich bis in das Erdgeschoss. Über ein paar Stufen steigt man hinab in den Galerieraum, der förmlich in den Ernst-Reuter-Platz eingelassen ist. Die Verästelungen der gewaltige Lüftungsanlage zeugen die von der Vergangenheit als Rechenzentrum. Diese wurden freigelegt und somit wie eine dauerhafte Installation inszeniert.
