The CityGate condominium development is located at the corner of Duke of York Boulevard and Burnhamthorpe Road West close to Mississauga’s City Centre. The project forms the visual termination of Duke of York Boulevard, an important north-south axis that lies between the institutional precinct (containing City Hall, the Library, and the Living Arts Centre) and the retail anchor (containing Square One Shopping Centre), at Mississauga’s downtown core.
Quadrangle’s design for the CityGate Condominiums includes two 34 storey towers of cascading aluminum and green tinted glass overlooking Square One. The cosmopolitan-styled tower is supported by a 10 storey concrete podium which provides an appropriately scaled urban edge to Burnhamthorpe Road West.
The modeling of the building corresponds to the distribution of unit types with single storey apartments in the tower and two storey lofts in the base. The base also serves to conceal multi-storey above-grade parking. Special care has been taken to place grade-related units and retail areas along both street frontages to provide pedestrian activity and focus.
Amenity areas include a large multi-purpose room and party lounge, guest suites, a sports lounge area with a fully equipped exercise room, a virtual golf room, a furnished media room, crafts and hobby rooms and a large landscaped garden patio.
Quadrangle’s sensitive and striking design for CityGate Condominiums contributes to the diverse downtown core of Mississauga. The development sets a new precedent for this growing area, attracting residents to the neighbourhood and creating a distinctive addition to the skyline.
In recognition of its design excellence, Phase 1 of the project was chosen as Project of the Year 2003 by the Greater Toronto Home Builders’ Association and received the Grand SAM award for Project of the Year from Canadian Home Builders’ Association. The project also received the 2005 Award of Excellence from the Mississauga Urban Design Awards.
