Mariana Maisonnave as Architects

Mariana Maisonnave advocates architecture with a soul, capable of transmuting feelings, providing a sense of welcome and tranquillity. For the year 2023, her fourth participation in the Santa Catarina show, she shows consistency in her Casacor journey, maturely reflecting on the marks of living and the value of history and its memories.

Mariana, who grew up in a house with her parents in João Paulo'S neighborhood, where the 2023 show is being held, brings some of her identification and emotional memory with the area, resulting in a project that embraces nature and shows its essence.

This year's show is being held at the former Hotel Maria do Mar, and for its 2023 project, the environment that was the former home of the hotel's caretaker, on Beira Mar, was radically transformed in 40 days, bringing a new version of what existed. The replacement and enlargement of the window frames, the creation of a front deck, a pergola that makes a mark and screens that divide the space with nautical ropes bring a new language to the house, showing the power of architecture.

Casa C [ALMA], through the choice of its natural textures and total integration with the external environment, brings the architect's identity into a 160m² environment - a complete house - light but with personality, created to foster meetings and moments of good living.
This year, Mariana is playing with clippings of her spaces from previous years, bringing back memories for those who already follow her work. In the living room integrated with the kitchen, she recalls the wooden portico, created in 2021 for the Respiro space, while in the closet she brings back the Cabilight, Waldir Junior's signature coat rack, used in her Abraço suite in 2022.

In the gourmet living room, Mari recalls traces of her 2021 project for the show, through the portico that marks out the kitchen area, and the island with a corian negative, which permeates its contour and allows light to illuminate the worktop and the niche for drinks. Elettromec appliances are highlighted in the minimalist cabinet, where the built-in freezer and fridge - with their doors covered in mdf - look like panels, with only the ovens visible.

In the dining area, a table designed by the architect in a collaboration with Residual, with a sculptural foot made from a tree trunk and an organic resin top, takes away the rigidity of the straight lines of the island next to it. On the side of the table, an ultra-compact shelf receives a composition of candles, highlighted by the indirect lighting in the background.

In the social area, Mariana praises the curved sofa, launched by Bellarte, with one of the walls covered in natural stone and the other with coral velvet texture, which is highlighted by a niche with thin shelves fixed to its sides and a loose backdrop, where the lighting gains space. The Botteh rug, in natural weaves, perfectly complements the space.

In the bedroom, the C[ALMA] bed, designed by the architect with Reveev, shows its identity through curved lines that embrace the room.  The composition of the bed, created between the upholstery and the natural veneer, shows that an asymmetrical and balanced piece is possible, where the two sides complement each other. The mix of materials in the headboard, the suspended and illuminated bed base, the curved drawer attached to the wooden panel and its sides set it apart and make it an exclusive piece.

In the bathroom, the wide window frame was designed to allow nature to permeate the house, with the solid raw travertine countertop supporting the sinks and taps by Jader Almeida, while two loose, suspended mirrors allow the view of the trees to enter the room. In the bathroom, a translucent glass aquarium plays the role of the shower and a vertical shampoo niche is the highlight, with thin shelves attached only on the side, leaving the bottom loose and illuminated.

The balcony, which was made possible by the construction of a wooden deck that runs the length of the house, is one of the highlights of the project. With a sea view, this outdoor area features a wooden pergola, a glass railing that leaves the view unobstructed, and nautical rope screens that divide the social and intimate areas. Loose furniture upholstered in textured fabrics - which hardly look like they're made outdoors - and woven rugs, with fireplaces in Organne basins bring warmth and comfort. In the intimate area, the soaking tub - Modelo Sampa, by Sabbia - lives up to a breathtaking sunset.
