A residential building for two families in a site with the view on the city of Tivoli. The project has been realized in the area where the Travertine Quarries are part of the surrou - nding landscape. The main request was to obtain private spaces open to the landscape but enclosed. The other impor- tant aspect was the sun exposure . The south side of the building has the windows set back to block the sun in the summer and permit to enter in the winter. The north side is flat without any elements to allow the light enter in any part of the year. The project idea: a single block, divided in the middle, cut out, rotated and superimposed. The arcades on the ground floor - spaces open to the garden, and the ter - races on the first floor – spaces open to the landscape. The building appear as a solid block, white and apparently her - metic, the tuff stone sign the surfaces that were 'cut out' to represent the opening towards the surrounding landscape. The internal space merges with the external space, and the two units appear to be the same , but they stand out from each other by the different internal spatial conformation.
