Campbell Valley Residence

Madeleine Design Group as Designers

Experience the stunning transformation of our Campbell Valley Residence project, where modern luxury meets thoughtful design. Originally built 17 years ago, this Langley, BC home underwent a dramatic modernization, shedding its traditional motif.

The grand entrance sets the tone with a double-height ceiling and an awe-inspiring structural steel floating staircase, adorned with an impressive openly-displayed wine collection. The dining room's relocation and the removal of a second-floor bedroom allowed for a centered entrance, offering a breathtaking view through to the newly landscaped backyard.

The main living space evolved into a modern Great Room with an indoor-outdoor allure, achieved through the removal and restructuring of an exterior wall with a steel moment frame. A new fireplace, Walnut dropped ceiling with pendant lights, and custom furnishings harmonize in this open concept.

The centerpiece, a magazine-worthy kitchen, exudes elegance. The merging of smaller islands, locally custom-designed pendant lights with brass accents, and a blackened steel range hood that matches the 48” range, faucet, and fireplace frame seamlessly enhance the space. Black stained white oak veneer unifies the cabinetry, aligning perfectly with the fireplace paneling.

Functionality met aesthetics in the kitchen, featuring black marble countertops with a protective finish, a small pantry, double-layered drawers, and strategic storage solutions. The primary bedroom's raised ceiling and the gut-renovated ensuite emphasize comfort and style, showcasing porcelain slabs and a captivating mix of textures.

From the entrance to the kitchen and beyond, the Campbell Valley Residence encapsulates contemporary living at its finest while still catering to our wonderful clients needs!

1. Grand Entrance Created: The entrance was elegantly restructured with a double-height ceiling, showcasing a striking steel floating staircase that housed your impressive wine collection. This entrance now stands as a captivating focal point, perfectly setting the tone for the entire house.

2. Great Room Modernized: The main living space underwent a complete transformation, emerging as a modern Great Room. Expansive sliding glass doors now seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, complemented by a sleek fireplace and a dropped ceiling that introduced both texture and warmth.

3. Awe-Inspiring Kitchen Realized: The kitchen has been spectacularly transformed into a magazine-worthy masterpiece, meticulously designed for the art of entertaining. The layout, custom island lighting, and chic black stained oak cabinets collectively created an atmosphere that was as practical as it was stylish.

4. Elevated Primary Ensuite Achieved: The primary bedroom's ceiling was elevated to 11', aligning harmoniously with the modernized exterior. While maintaining its original layout, the ensuite underwent a comprehensive makeover, embracing a harmonious blend of materials and textures to create an inviting ambiance that catered to our clients needs.

The challenge for us was to keep this beautiful kitchen as functional as possible, while still looking like “something from a magazine.” When the client requested black marble countertops, we ensured functionality by coating them with a protective finish to prevent etching.

To give the magazine look the client requested, there is no cabinetry above the countertops. For storage solutions: we placed a small pantry off the side of the kitchen, double layered drawers below the counters, and extra cabinets on the island under the stools. We also added a brass shelf on the back wall; it breaks up the space and gives an extra layer of depth

The appliances are all high end, but we convinced the client to go with a Workstation Sink, prioritizing utility over decoration. Precision holes have been drilled out of the marble backsplash to allow for seamless and hidden Bocci outlets. The bar stools match the kitchen’s black tones perfectly and complement the “hoop” style pendants above.

We met the client over FaceTime during the pandemic and made an instant connection. Located in Langley, BC, this house was originally built 17 years ago by the clients with the same contractor that performed this renovation and recommended our team. It was a fairly typical design for the area, but with grown kids and a desire to stay in the family home, the client wanted to do away with the “traditional” motif and completely modernize the house in a dramatic fashion.

Several changes in the layout were made: two smaller kitchen islands became one; the lights over the island are custom designed (locally) with brass accents. A window was removed and replaced with a custom made blackened steel range hood; it matches the 48” range below, the faucet on the opposite counter, and the fireplace’s frame. Black stained white oak veneer covers all cabinets and panels to give a sleek, uniform look; it also matches the paneling above the fireplace.
