Arkham Projects as Architects

An abandoned house acquires a new use when it is transformed into an office complex; a brokerage, rental offices and a training center, each with its own access points. Located in the city of Cancun, in an area near the entrance of the hotel zone.

The main design intention was to recycle and reuse as many materials as possible, preserving the entire original structure and giving unity to the facade through gabion walls that fulfill a double function, generate privacy, and at the same time create a lattice. which when illuminated, generates a playful space inside the project.

Respecting the entire structure and reusing certain elements such as window protectors for the creation of lattices, bamboo for the creation of sinks, polines and rods for the creation of furniture, among other elements. In addition to this, we use a unique covering material from the region called chucúm on some of the exterior walls; This coating is born from the combination of an extract from the bark of a tree typical of this area, combined with a little earth and white cement. On the other hand, gabion walls were used on the outside which fulfill the function of protection, but at the same time, being semitransparent, they generate playful spaces inside when illuminated at night.

Access to C10 is by means of a wooden bridge, entering the reception through a pond with fish and vegetation. Interior patios are generated that provide life and ventilation to the offices and the old window protectors are reused to create pergolases, which generate shadow games in them.

The polines used during construction were polished and varnished to create the office furniture; the same with the rods of the demolished castles and columns.

On the ground floor are the reception, a boardroom, archive, a general work area, an interior pond which serves as a transition between the city and the office, and the general management office; likewise, there is access to the training rooms, but in a separate area. Upstairs is the training room, a multipurpose room for rent, a waiting room and an additional private room.
