Bandeira Aparments

Play Arquitetura as Architects

Two apartments in the Bandeira building: The building housing these apartments is located in Vila Madalena, São Paulo, and was designed by the architectural firm UNA Architects. With a rational floor plan, the 150 sqm apartments originally featured 3 suites, a social area, kitchen, storage room, service bathroom, laundry, powder room, and a balcony/balcony running along almost the entire length of one side of the apartments. Large windows and doors ensure ample natural light in the apartments.

Owned by two young siblings, the apartments underwent a partial architectural renovation but a total transformation, as all finishes were redone, installations were complemented, and the entire carpentry and decoration project was custom-made.

Based on both common and specific requests from each client, this project can be seen as the expression of the design process, where small variations in layouts could be experimented with, different color palettes were tested, and some details were refined, in addition to the varied choice of furniture and objects for each apartment.

Originally, the kitchen was enclosed, and opening it was the first request from both clients. The union of 2 suites to result in a larger suite with a closet was also a common request.

In general terms, while the living room, kitchen, powder room, laundry, guest bathroom, and balcony are repeated in both apartments, the suites, master suite bathrooms, closet, and circulation are different. In one of the apartments, a guest room was retained, while in the other, this same space was transformed into a TV room.

A single material, a cementitious mass from Protécnica brand, covers the floors, walls, and ceiling of the entire apartment. The tonality used in each apartment is slightly different. For one of the apartments, the chosen wood was darker, pau-ferro; for the other, we used a very light natural wood veneer called Frassino wood. The stone used was the same for both apartments, honed Taj Mahal quartzite.

Subtle variations, such as the color of the curtains, or more significant ones, like the decoration, complete the choices and compositions of this unique demand experienced by Play Arquitetura.
