Bananain Concept Store Hangzhou

Some Thoughts as Interior and Installation Design

The structure and constraints of the real world are like a grid without coordinates, representing the uncertainty in a certain order. Somewhere within a complex state, the interaction between culture, society, technology and economy is impact each other to break up certain state of the grid.

In exploring the design for Bananain Concept Store Hangzhou, Some Thoughts draws inspirations from the geometric elements in the coordinate system that we aspire to combine into the spatial design. Vertical is the most straightforward expression of gravity, while bending is a poetic depiction of gravity. As applied in the interior, the cantilevers hanging over the columns have reinforced this structural form, while the abstract and curved forms and units were created by researching unconventional shapes and materials, which generated the dramatic spatial experience by the structural tension embedded in every sectional set.

The cambered surface is supported by a certain structure to form a cantilever in the space, introducing a new interaction between the organic elements and machinery. In the process of transcending utilitarianism or material texture, organic elements and mechanical spontaneously interfere with their composition of boundaries, enabling the public to meander around with an experience of continuous expansion and transition. One’s experience gets more immersive through the expansion of materials, density of the space and shapes of each unit, punctuating the influence of cantilever structure for this spatial order. Black and white marble poured into the grid matrix, composed of aluminum grids like waves, and the collision between random and order appeared in the form of one’s experience.

When natural materials are destroyed, polished and reconstructed, the remnants of nature help us to perceive the existence of organic elements in the space. In the design of Banana in Concept Store Hangzhou, Some Thoughts redefined "nature" by means of collision between marble and metal materials, making organic elements encompass a sense of "process aesthetics" between structure and deconstruction.
