AZIMUT Hotel Smolenskaya Lounge

KRAUZEarchitects as Architects

At the highest level: VIP-lounge of the Azimut Hotel in Moscow

Alexander and Anna Krauze designed a VIP lounge at the Azimut Hotel in Moscow, which offers impressive views of Moscow

“Intellectual minimalism” - this is how the authors of the project, Alexander and Anna Krauze , the founders of KRAUZEarchitects, determine the style of the new VIP lounge of the Azimut Moscow hotel . It is located on the twentieth floor of the four-star Azimut Hotel on Smolenskaya Square, from where panoramic windows offer impressive views of Moscow: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Stary Arbat, the high-rise of Moscow State University and Moscow City. In addition to the Azimut Lounge, there are also three conference rooms on the floor for various events that can be combined into a single space.

At the time of the start of the project, the floor was completely empty, the old partitions and decoration were dismantled. The architects did a serious job of planning the premises for the simultaneous stay of a large number of people, taking into account all fire standards. The halls were located along the panoramic glazing, which made it possible to maximize the use of species characteristics, increase the capacity and flexibility of the space. “In fact, it was not so simple: after all, many risers of communications pass through the floor,” Alexander and Anna share.

For event halls, a gray color with blue accents was chosen. “It is the most neutral, so the room is easy to style for any event,” the architects say. - Chairs, on the contrary, were chosen as colorful: with their help, attention is concentrated on the center of the room, and they also dilute the overall picture with their bright colors. The strict geometry of the space is complemented by a light graphic suspended ceiling and brutal lamps. All the halls are interconnected by transformable partitions with good sound insulation: so, the space can be modified for any event. ”

The architects worked on the design of the bathrooms together with the company Laufen, whom they met in the new showroom in Madrid. Exclusive products were presented there, which the Swiss manufacturer developed and produced to order for a hotel in New York. I wanted to do something similar in Moscow. So in the large bathroom of the VIP lounge, which overlooks the Arbat, tabletops with built-in sinks appeared: they repeated the geometry of the facade in their shape (Laufen made these products from new molding material without joints and seams). Today it is one of the most “instagram” places of the institution: hotel guests constantly come here to take a spectacular photo.

The interior of the lounge, according to the plan of the customer, was to differ from the design of the entire hotel, and the decisions and materials should emphasize its premium level. It has a homely atmosphere that is created by comfortable furniture and soft, well-designed lighting.

The color scheme is inspired by ancient Japanese painting, so Zen reigns here, Alexander and Anna laugh. Natural materials, a classic attribute of luxury, are fully used here. Solid French parquet lies on the floor, solid oak flooring, furniture is made of oak veneer, wall panels are made of noble patinated brass, and the counter top is made of natural marble with a beautiful greenish-gray shade.

In Azimut Lounge, everything has a comfortable rest, but the main decoration is, of course, the views from the window. “Especially beautiful light can be caught here at dawn and at sunset. We recommend everyone to be here during these hours, ”the architects say.
