Damilano Studio as Architects

The idea of the project was to expand the space of an attic which, despite being quite large with its 240 square meters, appeared cramped by a pitched roof that was compressing its volume. The final result of the conversation is a bright, spacious and dynamic apartment that perfectly reflects the owner’s needs.

Converting this kind of apartments can be quite difficult because the attics have very little room at the roof’s ridge and require customized spaces. The practise Damilano Studio took the challenge, managing to create large rooms with few dividing walls, to give more breath to the apartment. By knocking down the portion of the wall near the main door, a window on the cut- away roof terrace could be opened on the ceiling. This skylight floods with light a grand piano that immediately catches the eye of those who enter the apartment.

The sleeping area is designed as an independent area, an alcove where to retire at the end of the day. The bed and the bathtub, separated by a glass, create two spaces for the wellbeing in communication with each other and the soft light dampens the rigid geometry of the room. The bathroom is the only closed room, where the shower is obtained at the cockloft level to exploit its height.

The chosen colours and materials help giving breath to the spaces and the white reflective floors create homogeneous surfaces next to parts made the chestnut wood and facing in Indian stone.

Intense contrasting effects give movement and make the house lively and perfect for a young entrepreneur. In this apartment too it’s possible to trace the distinctive style of the architect who loves strong and light effects, elegant homes full of design objects, also spacious and bright with simple volumetric effects that revolve and overlap. Here too the characteristic elements are, therefore, white plasters, glass, local stones, water and reflections.
