Arsenal Art Galerry

Arsenal Art Galerry

WXCA as Architects

This valuable object, containing a modern gallery is to present an attractive offer as far as culture, recreation, and education are concerned, enriched with an external programme of exhibitions and outdoor events in the park area. Appropriate linking of the building with the surroundings will serve as a reviving factor for this degraded part of the city, and will co-create the assumptions of the boulevard on the river Biała at its length within the city's limits.

A pedestrian park alley and a cycling lane have been placed along the river. The existing trees have been preserrved, and wooden piers have been designed from the main alley to the river surface. A wider bridge has also been designed, leading throug the aquare to the main entrance of the old power plant, and a square at the corner of Elektryczna and J.K.Branickiego Street, in the form of a platform - filled with trees and benches. From this place, stairs and a ramp lead to another terrace on the surface of the river.

The building of the old power plant should be re-built in order to be adapted to the needs of a modern art gallery, maintaining its industrial character and showing its original architectural values.

The object has been functionally divided into 2 main parts: over- and underground. The overground part of the building holds the Gallery's visitor service zone and the exhibition area. The underground part of the building is a backstage and recreation area.
