Apartments on Ave. Maréchal Fayolle

SANAA / Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa as Architects

The project is situated in the 16th district, with typical dense, Haussmann designed, urban fabric on one side, and the “Bois de Boulogne” on the other. The project unfolds in between fluidly connecting urbanism and landscape.

The project is composed of 4 volumes, each 5 stories and is raised on pilotis, establishing complete transparency across the whole site at ground level. Freeform volumes create an atypical building with continuous façade and shifting depth. The interstitial spaces between the volumes creates a variety of patios and a break in the continuity of the street. A soft undulating landscape separates private and public activities at ground floor.

Each volume is different, providing diverse interior plans, all specific to their location. The resulting curved façade establishes multiple orientations and permits a variety of views from within each apartment. Said curve is experienced from both the exterior of the building and the interior of each apartment. Specifically, the perception of the project changes along the street as the curve of the buildings shifts in relation to it.

A white stucco façade softly reflects the trees around the site.
