Fortunato's project is a complete renovation of an 136m2 apartment in São Paulo - SP, developed by Matú Arquitetura in 2021. The family wished for more larger and integrated spaces, in addition to settling several functional needs and updating all the wet areas.
What guided the project? What were the inspirations?
The couple's main desire for their new home was an integrated apartment, with interactive and flexible spaces. In the intimate area, the interventions were more focused on finishes and custom-made joinery, in order to attend each resident's specific use and create efficient storages.
In the social area, the changes were more radical. We integrated the living room with the balcony and the kitchen, and then we organized the dining room and the sofa in a central area, saving the sides for other uses.
Main points of the project
The counter that integrates the kitchen extends to the windows creating a multifunctional line, with a china cabinet, a support bench and a gas grill. The custom-made joineries help the residents to organize themselves in an intuitive, sectored and simple way.
On the left side of the living room, we designed a large multi-functional joinery which makes up important volumes for the feeling of comfort in the room. With a lot of exposed american oak wood and stretches of steelwork, this large volume helps in creating a permeable space in the work area, not closing on itself. At the same time that it can be integrated into the room, it can be reserved. The bookshelf that designs the internal space of the office, on its living room side, is also a cloakroom - which organizes the entrance - and a TV panel. Following the alignment, it extends to the balcony, creating a large platform to serve as a playroom for children and a space for yoga practices and readings.
To connect to all the multi-functional spaces, the sofa came in the same principles. A modular one, designed to be the central furniture in the living room, which gives comfort for each possible use of the space.
Curiosity
The custom carpentry always has a special point in our projects, where all details and multifunction associated with the necessity, solve the spot in a practical and functional way.
