A young couple bought an apartment directly from the constructors, and from the beginning they knew they needed to hire an architect to solve the questions of an empty space. Then, they came to us, and requested a functional layout, where the rooms were strategically positioned, closed with doors or mobile structures that allow connections and openings with other environments whenever necessary.
What guided the project? What were the inspirations?
From this briefing, we started studying these multifunctional partitions, something that Matú Arquitetura always seeks to bring to its projects. They were made as woodwork, with sliding doors that collapse at the bottom and sides of cabinets that serve two or more environments at the same time. Inspired by an efficient design, we searched for elaborated solutions to get the most out of their own capacity as more plural environments. The spatial dynamic is founded on the ability to transform, sometimes as integrated environments, sometimes as an intimate and private space.
Main points of the project
In the midst of all this spatial dynamic, the bench/rack serves the bedroom and the living room, according to the desired use. The integrated joineries, cabinets and shelves were designed to align with the opened and closed positions of the doors. The main feature of the interior architecture project was the choice of materials without any finishes, in addition to the creation of a second bathroom, based on a pre-existed hydraulic system, becoming a restroom faced into the living room.
Curiosity
When integrated, the visual combination of the environments brings the feeling of harmony and a sense of spaces full of personality. When closed up, the layout brings privacy, without losing comfort and the feeling of well-being that these environments offer. The custom-made joineries and steelworks created a spatial connection. Multifunctionality is a characteristic that we always try to bring to our projects, creating varied uses, where one single element can attend two or more demands.
