STUDIO SAHEB come Architetti

SEPIZ is a common type of infill apartment buildings in Tehran, with access from both north and south of land and a great view to the mountain and city. It has five 4-bedroom units with both side views. 2 basement floors dedicated to parking, gym, pool, services area and mechanical room.

The main approach to this project was to create, experience and develop the idea of using the transition space between inside and outside of a building (the in-between space). We saw this kind of space as a solution to qualify the life in the common infill typology building in big cities like Tehran that usually with all their common limitations ended in a solid, rigid, defined and 2 dimensional boundaries between inside (private space) and outside (public space).

To confront with this situation and to extend the transition space we designed different plan for each level, which means different volumes that define/specify the inside enclosed space, by stacking these volumes on each other a void has been emerged within the envelope of the building and volumes which give us a great possibility to create that desired in-between space by adding balconies.

The void in the north side has more depth compare to the south side because of our decision according to better view to the mountains, more depth provide sufficient space for daily activities in huge balconies between inside and outside. In some points a wall contained flowerbox placed in front of this void and balconies to create a balance between inside-outside and view-privacy.

We hope these spaces can qualify standards of living in the common apartment typology in Tehran which suffer from lack of greenery and public communication spaces.
