Vin de Garde Wave House

Wild Wine Cellar at the Wave House on the Pacific West Coast Designed by Vin de Garde & KBC Developments

Vin de Garde Modern Wine Cellar Designs as Designers

With over a 50-year history of creating unique environments that are highly functional and exceptionally beautiful, KBC Developments is a leader in custom home building. Formerly known as Kliewer Bros. Construction, this Vancouver-based builder is spearheaded by brothers Harv and Ron Kliewer.

Harv and Ron grew up in the business, originally started by their father and his two brothers in 1959, allowing them an extremely well rounded foundation on the basics of construction, along with the value of honest, hard work. Formal educations along with ongoing training on trends and innovation in the industry, allow the brothers to maintain a consistent yet fresh perspective in their construction niche.

Part of KBC’s approach is to consult with clients and manage all phases of custom home design and construction. They understand that the process of creating a custom home can be arduous, and there are always challenges and limitations to be faced. Simply put, they strive to find innovative solutions to fulfill the vision of each client.

When KBC was awarded the contract to create Wave House on Vancouver’s west coast, they chose to engage Vin de Garde Modern Wine Cellars to build a custom wine cooler for the private residence. The wine cooler was created to resemble that found in a modern restaurant, with accents of warm walnut, steel and glass, blending seamlessly with the home’s finishings. The modern wine cooler makes an impressive addition to the entrance area of this waterfront home, offering easy access to the wine collection from all living and dining areas.

Inspired by well executed and simple designs, as well as the home tours offered through Dwell on Design http://dht.dwell.com/, the founders of KBC Developments love to explore architecture both in the real world and online.

They incorporate the inspiration they find into the homes they build, finding a balance between great design, environmental concerns and sensible execution.

The Modern Nek-Rite system used allows the wine bottles to be stored horizontally to showcase the labels, simplifying inventory maintenance. The cooler is 83 cubic feet and has capacity for 264 bottles. The CellarPro 1800 xts chiller was chosen which allows the wine collection to be stored at a cooler temperature than the surrounding spaces of the home.

After the success of their collaboration on Wave House, Vin de Garde Modern Wine Cellars and KBC Developments are currently working together on an exciting new project.
